Cookie policy

Last updated 14 September 2026

What this site stores on your device, why, and how to change your mind. Short, because there is not much of it.

What a cookie is

A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep, so that something can be remembered between one page and the next. Related technologies such as local storage do the same job in a different way, and everything on this page applies to those too.

Some are needed for a site to function at all. Others exist to count visitors or to measure advertising. UK law treats those two groups differently: the first can be set without asking, and the second cannot be set until you agree. There is more background in our guide to what a website actually is.

What we use today

At the time of writing this site sets one thing, and only after you have interacted with the banner.

NameWhat it doesHow long
fsc-consentRemembers the cookie choice you made, here and in the client area, so we do not ask again on every pageSix months, then we ask again

It is a first party cookie, which means it travels with requests to this site and to our client area at clients.freesitecrew.com. That is deliberate: it is how your choice is respected there as well as here, without being asked twice. It goes nowhere else, and if you have not made a choice yet, nothing is stored.

If you accept marketing cookies, the Meta pixel is loaded so we can tell whether an advert on Facebook or Instagram led to an enquiry. It sets the following. If you decline, none of it is requested and no connection to Meta is made at all.

Apart from the live chat described below, nothing in the analytics category is running at present. If we add a visit counter, this page will list what it sets before it is switched on.

The live chat

There is a chat button in the corner of every page. When the chat loads depends on what you chose in the banner.

  • If you allow analytics cookies, the chat loads as each page opens. That lets us see when somebody is on the site, so we can offer help before they have to ask.
  • If you do not, nothing belonging to the chat company is loaded until you press the button yourself. Never press it and no request to them is made at all.

Either way the chat is provided by Crisp, who set a cookie so that your conversation survives moving between pages and coming back another day.

NameWhat it doesHow long
crisp-client…Ties this browser to your conversation, so a reply reaches the right person and your history is still there when you come backAbout six months from your last visit

Crisp holds the conversation, and the session it is tied to records your IP address. They store it on servers in the European Union. If you have not allowed analytics cookies, pressing the button is the permission: a cookie needed for something you have just asked for does not need the same consent as one that watches you.

The three categories

The banner offers three groups, and you can accept or reject them separately.

  • Necessary. Always on, and it cannot be switched off, because without it the site cannot remember your cookie choice or protect itself. It never identifies you.
  • Analytics. Loads the live chat as each page opens, so we can see when somebody is on the site and offer help. If we add a visit counter it will sit here too, and this page will list it first.
  • Marketing. Loads the Meta pixel, so we can tell whether an advert on Facebook or Instagram led to an enquiry. This is the category that involves another company, and it is off unless you turn it on. Nothing is sent to Meta while it is off.

Say no to analytics and the live chat still works. It simply waits until you press the button.

What happens if you say no

Nothing. The site works exactly the same, every page is available, and you will not be asked again for six months. There is no reduced version of this site for people who decline, and no repeated banner nagging you to change your mind.

We are also not doing the thing where the reject button is hidden two screens deep. Accept and reject sit next to each other, the same size.

Changing your mind

You can at any time, from this page or from the link in the footer of every page. Withdrawing permission is as easy as giving it, which is how it should be.

Controlling cookies in your browser

Every browser lets you see what is stored and delete it, usually under settings for privacy or site data. You can block cookies entirely, though on many sites that will break things such as staying logged in. This site works with cookies blocked.

Changes

If we add anything that stores information on your device, this page will be updated before it goes live, the date at the top will change, and you will be asked again. Our privacy policy covers what we do with personal information more broadly.
